Professional Background

• Dr. Sewielam is a board certified pain medicine physician at Sugar Land Pain and Spine Specialists. He is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, Spine Universe, Texas Medical Association, Harris County Medical Society and the World Institute of Pain.  Dr. Sewielam is currently a voluntary assistant professor with Baylor College of Medicine.

• Dr. Sewielam was the founder of the Spine and Pain Management Department at Kelsey Seybold Clinics. With his experience, knowledge and leadership, Dr. Sewielam managed, established and grew the department over the span of 20 years; leaving his legacy as he left the department in 2024 as one of the largest and most respected Spine and Pain Management departments serving thousands of Spine and Pain management patients in the Greater Houston area.

• Dr. Sewielam completed an Interventional Pain Fellowship at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He is certified as a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP), the highest distinction for an interventional pain physician from the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians.

• Dr. Sewielam went to Baylor College of Medicine/The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston where he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The program he attended was one of the top three Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation programs in the nation. He was chief resident during his training and the recipient of several awards, including the Oliver R. Smith, Jr., M.D., Award for Excellence during his residency. Dr. Sewielam earned his medical degree from Cairo University in 1993.

• Dr. Ahmed I. Sewielam has been recognized with a prestigious national recognition for excellence in providing patients with superior back pain care by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). (2012)
• The NCQA Back Pain Recognition Program (BPRP) was designed to improve the quality of care to the nearly 30 million Americans who experience low back pain and motivate other clinicians and chiropractors to document and improve their delivery of spine care.
